Review ~ Awakening the Willow's Heart by Jacqueline Anne

Synopsis:

Coming from a troubled home where no one loves her, Miya Jenkins turns to the only people who ever cared – the Walkers. Her best friends, Cate and Caden always have her back and their parents treat her like a second daughter. She’s smart, dedicated to her education, and focused on success. Miya learns to trust her instincts and never relinquish control, all while enjoying what life and men have to offer. Trust is a hard thing to come by for Miya, and she refuses to open up her heart. Like the willow tree under which she lost her innocence, she bends but doesn’t break.

Caden Walker – always there for her, always protective, always a comfort, but wanting more.

Miya refuses to reveal her inner self, not even to him, and she’s not willing to sacrifice their friendship. She wants a normal life, to feel anchored in the safety of someone’s arms, but she wonders if anyone can ever tear down the high walls built around her heart. Is it possible the walls already began to crumble beneath that willow tree? Will all of her successful endeavors lead her to the one she thought most unattainable?

My Thoughts:

This could have been awesome but fell short in my opinion. :-(

I liked the cover. I liked the characters. The pace was decent and page length perfect.

What I didn't like was the promiscuity of the heroine. I expected a good deal of sex it but it seemed greatly exaggerated and excessive. Why not just say over the years she was with lots of different men sexually and leave it at that. I didn't need to know every name of every man that she was with. I would have rather shaved some of that off and had her end up with the hero a lot sooner. It seemed to me that they danced around each other for most of the book and then a couple chapters before the end they finally got together. The ending felt rushed to me. I wanted more quality time between the H&h and less sex with random johns. It began to feel like it was more about sex and less about the plot. :-(

Don't get me wrong, I like sex in my books. I like it quite a lot but I prefer it when it is meaningful.

The hero was great. Actually I liked all of the characters except for Miya's parents.

I liked Awakening The Willow's Heart. The plot was good. I just think it would have been much improved if there would have been more romance between the main characters or it had been fleshed out a bit more.

This was very hot with all the sex scenes, flirting and dirty talk. There was also an underlying plot about Miya's horrible youth and how it prevented her from committing or feeling worthy of love. It could have been a great plot but it was very diluted by all of the sex scenes. She had sex with people but it never really got down to exploring why she was doing that or what her feelings were as much as I would have liked. It mentioned what she was thinking or feeling occasionally but I wanted it to move me to feeling it too and unfortunately it did not.

I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. I liked it, probably could have loved it but it just wasn't meant to be. :-( The author is writing a book in Caden's POV and I am super excited about it. I hope that it will be more of what I was hoping for in this one.
