Review & Giveaway ~ BABY BY DESIGN, a Contemporary Romance by Elley Arden

http://tastybooktours.blogspot.com/2013/10/now-booking-tasty-virtual-book-tour-for_11.html

Blurb:

Trish DeVign knows what she needs to be single, successful and satisfied. She needs a baby. With recent relationships falling short of her expectations, she’s single by choice. With a thriving interior design company, she’s got successful covered. It’s the satisfied part that eludes her, and that’s her mother’s fault-not her adopted mother, but the mother who gave her away, sentencing her to a privileged life with two good people who don’t share with her a single drop of DNA. Refusing to grow old bitter, Trish decides a baby will calm the restlessness and lead her to true happiness. Instead, it leads straight to her best friend’s brother.

Tony Corcarelli has spent his adult life as the black sheep of his large Italian-American family. The nickname became permanent when he took a buyout from his sister rather than run the family carpentry company after his father’s death. Now, Tony’s grandmother has cancer, and he’s expected to join the family in making her wishes come true. Unfortunately, the two things Nonna wants most for Tony, are two things he can’t fathom-a wife and kids or the priesthood. There has to be another way.

When Trish asks Tony to escort her to a wedding, a night of fun and flirtation turns serious, with Trish confessing she wants a baby-Tony’s baby. Could a calculated conception be the answer he’s looking for? Thrown together by a carefully constructed yet cockamamie plan, Trish and Tony struggle to define terms they didn’t expect to become so complicated. But what if neither disapproving family members nor Nonna’s rapidly declining health is their biggest complication? What if it’s love?

My Thoughts:

Sweet! I love big Italian families and Baby By Design has one in it. :-)

I don't want to give everything away but the heroine was adopted and while she loves her parents and is loved, she longs to have a blood connection with someone. She hasn't been able to make a love match with anyone despite dating many eligible men. She's not getting younger and she wants a baby so badly that she is willing to overlook the love aspect.

Tony is a live and let live, fly by the seat of his pants type of man. He loves his big family but he likes his freedom too. When a family member takes ill, everyone prepares grand gestures to make the sick person feel better. Tony can't decide on anything. Other than getting married or becoming a priest there isn't a gesture grand enough to offer. He could never be a priest and he really doesn't want to settle down.

Trish and Tony hit it off when he takes her to a wedding as a favor and she decides to ask him to impregnate her. This might just fix both of their problems. Or will it complicate things more?

This book had lots of chemistry between Trish and Tony. ;-) I loved the family element. The characters were great and the interaction between the relatives made for a few laughs.

There was some doubts, romance, snark, a big Italian family, and a baby?

I especially liked the ending. Tony was too cute!

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. It was sweet and heart wrenching, fun and flirty, romantic and realistic. I'd recommend it and would definitely read more from this author. :D

Excerpt:

Trevor fought to get Smoke’s disgustedly grinning face out of his mind. Knowing that freak made love to Lindsey on a daily basis and worse, that she accepted and encouraged him, stabbed Trevor deep to his heart, like a twin silver bladed knife. Images of Smoke and Lindsey fucking in that damn cabin in Minnesota carved a permanent place in his head. He recalled how Lindsey rode Smoke as if she loved it, but the toughest thing for Trevor was seeing Smoke’s mark on her shoulder. It killed him, leaving a heavy weight inside his chest.

He kicked out his fury, foot meeting chair, and it slammed into the wall twenty feet away. Just then Jase sauntered into the Ops room.

“What the heck, Trev.” Jase strode over to the chair. “You need to get laid, man. Forget her and move on.” Jase picked it up and bent it back into shape. He set the chair legs on the floor. One second ticked by, long enough for Jase to make it back beside Trevor, and the chair busted in half, making both men jump. “Good grief! That liked-ta scare the fur right off my gonads.”

Trevor chuckled at Jase’s exclamation, his non-use of cuss words. It’d been a good month since he’d heard the sound of his own laughter. And, it didn’t seem to help his ache or the hollow heaviness. He sighed and turned to leave.

“Whoa, where ya goin’ in such a hurry? We need to plan an attack. Get those Lycan scumbags to the Elders so they can be dealt with good and proper.” Jase sidled closer, eyes wide, brows high and his mouth a thin line, an expression Trevor recognized as seriousness.

Trevor knew the kid’s look after mentoring him enough to understand what the young Lycan was up to, but being pulled into something else would never alleviate his loss. He trusted Jase to have his back, but didn’t want any part of a plan that involved Smoke or Lindsey. The little scrapper would have to find someone else. Trevor considered the younger man standing too close, in his space, and gave him a shove. Jase’s butt hit the floor and skidded across the room, stopping beside the chair remnants. Before Trevor blinked, the wiry shit stood in his face again.

“Stop acting like a husk of the Lycan-wolf we all know you to be. You’re setting a crappy example for the rest of us loners.”

“Then maybe it’s time I set out on my own. Take up with another pack.”

“You know you can’t just leave us. You belong in this pack, Trev. We all… No, I depend on you for teaching me the wily ways of women. Stop leading me astray.” Jase chuckled and then went all serious again, but Trevor waited him out until the usual playful grin took over Jase’s face.

“Jase, stop. Can’t you see I’m not in the mood?”

“Shit, you have moods. Good gods, isn’t that female crap? Fuck.”

“And since when do you talk such trash? I’ve never heard you swear…and now, suddenly, you’re choking on those damn words.” Trevor studied Jase, realizing his friend worried about him. He wondered at the possibility of making love with someone else after finding and losing his primal-mate to another. Would his body even allow it? Guess there was only one way to find out. Maybe having Jase along would be a good back-up plan. “Fine, how about we go scare up some tail? What do you think about sharing a female? I understand it’s every woman’s dream.”

Jase’s face lit every which way, from twinkling eyes to his shit-eating grin. “I’m in. It’s like hands-on with a master, watch, learn, and play at the same time.” Jase chuckled. “How can I go wrong?”

My Thoughts:

I probably should have read book one first. It sounds great!

Absolutely Adults Only!!!!

Savage Smoke was entertaining but I can't give you a perfect review.

There were some things that I didn't care for.

1. The focus changed too often for my liking. There were too many threads going at the same time. I get distracted or confused.

2. There was some f/f action.

3. I didn't care for how easily these characters were swayed or distracted by sex, especially when they supposedly had a mate and it wasn't their mate they were lusting after.

In addition to the f/f action, there was lots of other action too, even some with multiples. I will say this book was extremely hot. I skimmed some of it though because I just couldn't stand it.

The main plot is good though and other than finding the sex more of a hindrance than anything, I enjoyed it. Yes I said that. You all know that I don't care for f/f action and I prefer one on one. I don't mind multiples at times in my reading but it just didn't sit well with me here.

I hope that Jase gets rescued but I probably won't read the next book.

If you like lots of hot sex and weres, you may want to try this.

I received an ebook in exchange for my honest opinion. It was pretty good. However, I like my characters to be monogamous. Because some of these weren't I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. This has to do with me and my preferences. I am not in any way saying that the book was bad. This is Not the case!

Excerpt:

Unable to meet his gaze, I picked up my fork and pushed the food around the plate in a circle. “He accused me of sleeping with you.” I inhaled sharply. “And he called me frigid again.” I paused and took a swig of wine to cover my distress. “Sometimes I can’t help but wonder … if I wasn’t so frigid in bed, he wouldn’t have needed to find it elsewhere.”

I heard Liam exhale. “Don’t do that, Viv.”

As I fiddled with the stem of the wineglass, I forced myself to meet his gaze. “Do what?”

“Doubt yourself. Blame yourself. Don’t do that.” His voice was nothing but kind. There was no hint of condescension in it.

I tried to speak, failed, so I drank some more wine.

“Listen.” Liam set his fork on the table. “If a girl is frigid, it is usually because the way she is treated outside of bed has left her frigid.”

“But there has to be something wrong with me. I mean, what twenty-two-year-old has never experienced the Big O? You know, I can be a little uptight, even high-strung at times. So really, it could just be me.”

“It’s not you,” Liam said firmly. “Don’t let Brody mess with your head. Do you know that about ten percent of women have never experienced an orgasm? And most women aren’t able to climax with intercourse alone. They need other sorts of …” He paused, seemingly to search for the word. “Stimulation.”

The word made a blush rise on my neck and throat.

Liam leaned back in his chair and regarded me steadily. “And from what it sounds like, Brody is a fucking moron. No guy should ever expect you to function with the predictability of a machine. And if he does, then he should just have sex with his car.”

I smothered a giggle. “So I take it you’ve had plenty of experience helping girls reach the pinnacle of sexual passion.”

His lips turned upward in a semi-grin. “Not really.”

“C’mon,” I teased, swirling the wine in my glass. “What about all those Jessicas you dated? Jessica Neal, Jessica Cena, Jessica Long, Jessica Alba?”

He let out a dismissive laugh. “I never dated Jessica Alba.”

As I forked a mouthful of ravioli, I pointed out, “You had the biggest crush on her, though.”

He didn’t deny it. “Me and every other guy I knew.”

I arched an eyebrow. “So did you love all the other Jessicas?”

He shrugged. “Truthfully, I don’t think I even knew what love was back then.”

I eyed him curiously. “Do you know now?”

He shoveled in a bite, chewed then swallowed. “I think I may have some idea.”

I leaned back in my chair and ran a fingertip around the rim of my wineglass. “What do you think love should feel like? Fireworks? Crazy intense, mad passion?”

The look he gave me was long and considering. He lifted his glass and took a swig before answering. “I think a slow burning candle produces more warmth and light than a brief explosion.”

We stared at each other as his words hung in the air between us. “With Brody …” I spoke into the silence. “It was crazy intense. I met him in college my freshman year. And right from the start, we had instant fireworks … the brief explosions you were just talking about. He pretty much swept me off my feet, and I kind of jumped off the diving board into the deep end.”

Liam had a deep and intent expression on his face as he listened to me.

His eyes were open and accepting. Nonjudgmental.

When I finished, he grew quiet for a moment. Then he said, “I think the idea that love must be crazy intense all the time is what keeps people from being satisfied with the normal, boring day-to-day love. The sort of quiet love that is tucked away in the corner instead of shouted from the rooftops. That kind of simple day-to-day love … that quiet love, it might seem dull to others. But for me—” He gave a short shrug— “that’s love.”

My Thoughts:

Vivian's List was a hot tale about woman who has lost herself due to her emotionally abusive boyfriend. She didn't even realize what was happening until her friend Liam pointed it out.

Liam is also her brother's best friend and in the service. (Man in a uniform ladies!) He is only home for a little while before returning for another tour over seas. His mother had been abused in the same way for years and he watched her slowly turn into a zombie. He couldn't stand for Viv to end up that way.

Viv can't seem to get one particular word out of her head. She keeps hearing the word frigid as spoken to her from her boyfriend when he said he cheated on her because she was frigid.

She decides to find out if he was right. She makes a sexual bucket list.

Liam is shocked, startled and aroused when he finds her list. He refuses to let her do these things and tries to explain that it is not safe for her to try these things with random men. She decides that he should do them with her instead. ;-)

Both of these characters have been dancing around their mutual attraction. Now that they are acting on it, will things between them ever be the same?

There are a lot of erotic scenes, some mean and nasty ranting by an obnoxious a**, romance, and a terrifically sweet hero in this book.

I recommend this book if you like lots of spice and a sweet and loving hero. ;D I do!

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was hot, sweet, and satisfying while leaving me wanting more at the same time. I can't wait to read part two, Liam's List.
